About Paddlefest
Due to expected floating dock construction Paddlefest is being “mothballed” for 2009.
We'll be back in the Fall of 2010!
Paddlefest will feature two days of activities showcasing Humboldt Bay, and will be based at HSU’s new Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Center will serve as the official headquarters for Paddlefest, including hosting land-based activities/classes, while water-based activities will be scheduled to launch from three docks located directly north of the facility (adjacent to Halvorson Park). Saturday will play host to a canoe and kayak fun race around Woodley Island, children’s activities, live music, clinics and classes, vendor demos and booths, and delicious food and beverages. Sunday, the event continues with the addition of a wacky Kardboard Kayak Race, the KEET Ducky Race (fundraiser for kid’s programs), and a myriad of other water-based activities. Awards will be presented to race and contest participants both days.
Admission is FREE. Last year, over 1500 people attended including Humboldt State University alumni, students, local and regional water enthusiasts and novices and community spectators. This year’s event will be partnered with the Harbor District’s Maritime Expo (an event tied closely to the city of Eureka and the US Coast Guard). The result will be bigger crowds and more potential participants!
Participating in Paddlefest is a great way to support outdoor adventure on the North Coast, Humboldt State University and promote recreational use of the bay. Profits from the event will be donated to the HSU Center Activities Youth Aquatic Scholarship Fund.
